The Banker’s House is opening its doors wider than ever! Beginning in October 2025, visitors will have more opportunities to explore this historic Shelby treasure.
Free Wednesdays for Cleveland County Residents
Every Wednesday from 2–5 p.m., Cleveland County residents can visit The Banker’s House for free. This initiative is part of our ongoing mission to share the history and beauty of this landmark with the very community that surrounds it. Whether you’ve never stepped inside before, or you’ve been dozens of times, there’s always something new to discover—architectural details you may not have noticed, rooms you may have missed, or simply the quiet charm of the house and grounds.
Weekly Friday Tours
In addition to Free Wednesdays, The Banker’s House will now be open every Friday from 2–5 p.m. for historical tours. Admission is just $10 at the door. These Friday afternoons are a perfect way for out-of-town guests, history enthusiasts, or anyone curious about Shelby’s past to experience one of the county’s most distinctive landmarks.
Why This Matters
Built in 1874 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Banker’s House is one of North Carolina’s finest examples of Second Empire architecture. Its mansard roof, central tower, and elegant details make it a showpiece of its time. But beyond its architecture, the house tells a story of community, resilience, and preservation.
By expanding our hours, we hope to make that story even more accessible—to students, families, visitors, and lifelong residents alike.
